Amigurumi Snail Pattern: Craft an Expressive Masterpiece

My dear creator, the time has come to bring our vision into reality. This snail requires patience, precise tension, and an understanding of how form dictates character. We will build the foundation first, ensuring the ruffled foot provides a stable base for the magnificent, heavy gaze that defines this piece. Follow the mathematics closely, and the yarn will do exactly as we command.

About This Creation

This project is an exercise in exaggerated proportions and structural balance. By contrasting the slender eyestalks with the massive, heavy-lidded eyes, we evoke a profound sense of innocence. The coiled shell relies on progressive increases and strategic stuffing to maintain its iconic, organic spiral without collapsing.

R2: 1 inc, 13 sc, [1 inc] x 3, 13 sc, [1 inc] x 2. (38)

R3: 1 sc, 1 inc, 13 sc, [1 sc, 1 inc] x 3, 13 sc, [1 sc, 1 inc] x 2. (44)

R4: In FLO, place 3 sc in every single stitch around the perimeter to force the ruffle to flare. (132)

Fasten off and weave in the ends. This piece remains flat.

The Main Body (Light Blue)

R1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)

R2: [1 inc] x 6. (12)

R2: [1 sc, 1 inc] x 3. (9)

R3-R12: 1 sc in each stitch around. (9)

R3: [1 sc, 1 inc] x 6. (18)

Insert the 12mm red safety eyes between rounds 4 and 5, placing them slightly off-center to create a gentle, downward gaze. Secure the backings.

R10: [1 sc, 1 dec] x 6. (12)

Stuff the eyeball very firmly to ensure a perfectly smooth sphere.

R11: [1 dec] x 6. (6)

Fasten off and leave a massive tail (at least 20 inches) for coiling and sewing. Stuff the tip (Rounds 1-15) very firmly, then progressively stuff lighter as you reach the open end.

Assembly

✨ First, position the Eyelids over the top hemisphere of the White Eyeballs. Sew them down securely, ensuring the rim of the eyelid sits just above the safety eye to create that sleepy, heavy gaze.

✨ Next, sew the top of each Eyestalk to the bottom-center of the assembled eyes. Make sure the connection is robust.

✨ Sew the bottom of the Eyestalks to the top opening of the Main Body (Round 18). Place them side-by-side, perfectly centered.

✨ Sew the bottom of the Main Body (Rounds 1-3) directly to the top center of the Ruffled Foot Base. Ensure it sits flush and stable.

✨ Finally, physically roll the Coiled Shell into a tight spiral, starting from the narrow tip. Use the long yarn tail to sew completely through the layers, locking the spiral in place. Sew the open base of the shell to the back half of the Main Body, resting it gently against the Ruffled Foot.
